The project ‘New Designs for Hand Block Printed Fabrics’ is the product of a series of workshops developed by the Higher Institute for Artistic Industries in Faenza (ISIA) in collaboration with Stamperia Bertozzi in Gambettola.
Michele Manzi, designer and co-founding partner of MZDS, has coordinated the project activities, including introducing ISIA students to traditional hand printing techniques. As a result of this collaboration, they have been able to explore the theme ‘Enchanted Forest’ through a creative journey inspired by magic woods populated by birds and nocturnal animals, imaginary creatures and the delicate colours of the Russian dachas.
According to Manzi, the whole experience has been like ‘a visual story whereby ideas and images gradually come to light over the course of the creative process, before fully blossoming into fresh and surprising patterns.’
Flies, feathers, trees and deer are perhaps the most significant results of this work, which has seen ISIA and Stamperia Bertozzi forge a strong, valuable collaboration for the final realisation of this project as well as the many others that are yet to com
