Simply the perfect way to end the day. That’s all that goes through your mind as you sink your head into this luxurious hand-painted artisan creation. The organic linen is rewardingly soft, gentle and soothing against your skin. You know you’re being treated to an unusually fine fabric.
Purely the highest quality, Italian organic linen has been chosen for this artisan creation. Perfectly smooth linen like this can only be produced in the time-honoured method, woven on a shuttle loom.
The artisan has achieved a delightful and delicate combination of the leaves of different trees with this leaf design (foglia in Italian). The lovingly positioned combination of leaves gives this fascinating design an intriguing variety. You find yourself just gazing at it, lost in its nostalgic beauty.
To create this special item, the artisan has used a multi-layered approach known as ‘negative printing’. This involves hand-printing the leaf design (foglia in Italian) onto the linen using a wax. They then hand-paint the colour onto the entire fabric before washing the wax out of the fabric to reveal the leaf design remaining in the natural linen tone.
The single band of colour bordering the leaf design has been hand-painted onto the fabric. So, being printed and painted entirely by hand, this pillow case has the winning hallmarks of a genuinely artisan creation – with each item having a truly unique finish all of its own.
“Viewing life as it is, finding the instincts, dreams and longings we share in common,” says Charlotte Hjorth-Rohde, the Danish graphic designer and photographer who created l’heure bleue (the blue hour) design exclusively for AllÓRA.
Since 1920, the Bertozzi family have been creating the most wonderful hand-printed and hand-painted fabrics. Using traditional techniques, these master artisans hand-carve blocks of pear wood to produce the stamps they use to print their own designs onto the fabric. The rich and vibrant colours they hand-mix come from closely guarded family recipes that are passed from generation to generation.
Variations in finish or appearance are not considered imperfections, but are the mark of a unique handmade item.
