Add colour and vibrancy to your kitchen with a tea towel that’s bursting with personality. With its splendid colour tones and classically simple lines, a tea towel like this will always be desirable. The stripes on this fine linen may seem to be straightforward – but in fact a combination of hand-painting and hand-printing techniques has been expertly applied to craft this design. The coloured stripes you see have been printed in the traditional way – directly onto the fabric.
But where you see the white stripes on the coloured background, the Italian artisans have used a complex technique called ‘negative printing’. This involves hand-printing the stripes onto the plain linen using a wax. They then hand-paint the colour onto the entire fabric before washing the wax out of the fabric to reveal the stripes remaining in the natural linen colour.
This delightful creation is crafted from the highest quality, organic, naturally crumpled linen, woven in the traditional way on a shuttle loom. It is soft to the touch – and also extremely easy to use and take care of. After use, you can simply leave it to dry naturally, and it gains beauty over time as the character grows.
Since 1920, the Bertozzi family have been creating the most wonderful hand-printed and hand-painted fabrics. Using traditional techniques, these master artisans hand-carve blocks of pear wood to produce the stamps they use to print their own designs onto the fabric. The rich and vibrant colours they hand-mix come from closely guarded family recipes that are passed from generation to generation.
Variations in finish or appearance are not considered imperfections, but are the mark of a unique handmade item.
