We’re able to bring this very special scarf to you thanks to a collaboration between Danish designer, Charlotte Hjorth-Rohde, and two Italian artisans, Tessitura Pardi and Stamperia Bertozzi.
This truly unique hand-painted and hand-printed scarf is handcrafted from pure, natural, organic linen – which is so soft to the touch that it’s a joy simply to feel it caress your hand. That’s because it has been woven in the traditional way from the very finest lightweight gauze linen – by the master artisan Pardi at his mill in Umbria, Italy.
This very precious scarf is also a superb example of the art of printing – with Bertozzi employing a combination of techniques here. Where you see the white leaves on the coloured background, the Italian artisan has used a complex technique called ‘negative printing’. To do this, they hand-print the leaf design onto the linen using a wax. They then hand-paint a colour onto the entire fabric before washing the wax out of the fabric to reveal the leaf design remaining in the natural linen colour.
The coloured leaves set against the white background have been printed in the traditional way, by printing the leaf design straight onto the fabric. And the double stripes running across the scarf have also been printed straight onto the fabric.
Being hand-painted and hand-printed, each one of these scarves is truly one of a kind, and offers many options for you to add luxury and individuality to any smart or casual look.
Since 1949, the Pardi family have woven the finest quality fabrics using pure and natural fibres of cotton and linen. Their designs take inspiration from the colours around them today, including the Umbrian sky, earth, stones and bricks.
The Bertozzi family have used traditional printing techniques since 1920, hand-carving blocks of pear wood to produce the stamps they use to print designs onto fabric. They handmix the rich and vibrant colours that you see here – just as they have always done.
Variations in finish or appearance are not considered imperfections, but are the mark of a unique handmade item.
