When you curl up in bed and wrap this magnificent duvet cover around you, you immediately realise you’re experiencing something several leagues beyond other duvet covers. As you run your hand across this luxurious fabric, it’s so inviting that you just want to continue enjoying it.
Extraordinarily soft – it’s a feeling of pure luxury and indulgence. That’s because this very special duvet cover is crafted from only the smoothest, finest, carefully selected, organic linen, which is woven in the traditional way, in an Italian artisan workshop, on a shuttle loom.
The artisans have demonstrated a masterclass of printing techniques in crafting this superb creation. Employing a rare and complex method known as ‘negative printing’, they have firstly hand-printed the leaf design (foglia in Italian) onto the linen using a wax. They have then hand-painted the colour onto the entire fabric before washing the wax out of the fabric to reveal the leaf design that remains in the natural linen tone.
The two stripes that border and frame the leaf design have also been hand-painted onto the linen. And because this stunning design is realised entirely through traditional artisan techniques – using human hands – it shows itself in a different way every time. So every one of these beautiful creations is truly unique and individual, with a character all of its own.
“Viewing life as it is, finding the instincts, dreams and longings we share in common,” says Charlotte Hjorth-Rohde, the Danish graphic designer and photographer who created l’heure bleue (the blue hour) design exclusively for AllÓRA.
Since 1920, the Bertozzi family have been creating the most wonderful hand-printed and hand-painted fabrics. Using traditional techniques, these master artisans hand-carve blocks of pear wood to produce the stamps they use to print their own designs onto the fabric. The rich and vibrant colours they hand-mix come from closely guarded family recipes that are passed from generation to generation.
Variations in finish or appearance are not considered imperfections, but are the mark of a unique handmade item.
