If you want to create a feeling of life and character as you gather friends and family around the table, there’s no better way to do it than with this beautiful handcrafted tablecloth.
A rare combination of hand-painting and hand-printing techniques has been expertly applied to craft the finished article you see here. Where you see the white stripes on the coloured background, the Italian artisans have used a complex technique called ‘negative printing’. This involves hand-printing the stripes onto the plain linen using a wax. They then handpaint the colour onto the entire fabric before washing the wax out of the fabric to reveal the stripes remaining in the natural linen colour.
Where the artisans have hand-painted the fabric, you can actually see their brush strokes running in different directions. It’s these sorts of human touches that makes each one of these wonderful creations truly one of a kind and very special.
Expertly crafted from the finest quality, organic, naturally crumpled linen, this striking tablecloth is both classic and contemporary in its look. And this aesthetic makes it really versatile – perfectly suited to many different occasions.
Since 1920, the Bertozzi family have been creating the most wonderful hand-printed and hand-painted fabrics. Using traditional techniques, these master artisans hand-carve blocks of pear wood to produce the stamps they use to print their own designs onto the fabric. The rich and vibrant colours they hand-mix come from closely guarded family recipes that are passed from generation to generation.
Variations in finish or appearance are not considered imperfections, but are the mark of a unique handmade item.
