The design of this highly unusual ornamental glass dish is inspired by the autumnal leaves falling to the ground in the artisan’s surrounding area in Italy. With its irregular form and crinkled, leaf-like edges, it has an alluring organic feel to it. This natural feel is enhanced by the shifting, ever-changing light reflections that dance so fascinatingly across the surface of this unique artisan-crafted dish.
This dish is handmade using the world-famous glass from the island of Murano, Venice. Glass from Murano is celebrated for its irregular surface, which magnifies the light’s refractions.
To create this very striking item, Vetrofuso by Daniela Poletti soften two separate sheets of glass over a flame. One of the sheets has the dark cherry colour and the other is clear glass. Within the clear glass sheet, they create bubbles to give the marbled appearance that you see. And they lay both sheets into a mould to produce the desired shape. Once they have created the form, they fuse together the two sheets over a flame once again.
These ancient glass-fusing techniques, coupled with the artisan’s modern tastes and creativity, create a perfect synthesis of the traditional and the contemporary, the art and the craft, the idea and the technique.
Combining ancient glass art with modern taste and creativity, and with tireless research and experimentation, Vetrofuso by Daniela Poletti craft truly unique creations, with new colourings and use of new materials – both precious and recycled. It is the perfect synthesis of the traditional and the contemporary, the art and the craft, the idea and the technique.
Variations in finish or appearance are not considered imperfections, but are the mark of a unique handmade item.
