Why linen is best for towels
Linen has many benefits when being used as a towel compared to other fabrics, such as cotton, one of these benefits being its incredible absorbency. Unlike the fibres of cotton and other fabric alternatives on the market, linen’s fibres are hollow, allowing the bath towel to absorb more moisture before beginning to feel damp. Linen is also fast-drying, as this fibre structure gives the fabric a high amount of breathability.
Rather than deteriorating over time like many textiles, linen towels age like a fine wine - improving in texture and softening with every bath or wash of hands. However, the sturdy flax fibres make linen a strong and long-lasting fabric, meaning the soft towels will remain part of your homeware collection for years to come.
Above all, towels should be hygienic and kind to the skin, which is why linen reigns supreme in terms of suitability for both hand and bath towels. As well as being naturally antibacterial and hypoallergenic, linen towels are produced free of harsh chemicals, making them ideal for contact with freshly-washed and potentially sensitive skin.
About the artisan
The Bertozzi family have been creating hand-printed and hand-painted artistry on luxury fabrics since the 1920s. By using shuttle looms to fashion the fabric, secret family recipes to mix the dyes and hand-carved segments of pear wood to craft the stamps, Stamperia Bertozzi have mastered the ancient craftsmanship techniques that have been passed down from generation to generation.
Based in Emilia-Romagna, the workshop takes its inspiration for designs from the coast, countryside and natural wonder of the region.
