The return of life to nature and bright hues can be found within this fresh and highly detailed design; the result of the skill of the craftsmen who work by hand to produce the intricate motifs that adorn the tablecloth. Interlocking stripes are first sketched, carefully measured and proportioned, before a series of different delicate wooden blocks are used to imprint each line, insect and its details. The silhouette of the insect is first stamped before colours are applied in various layers for depth. Yellow butterflies, red ladybirds and lilac dragonflies rest, as if in a watercolour painting, upon the finished tablecloth. Since 1920, the Bertozzi family have been creating the most wonderful hand-printed and hand-painted fabrics. Using traditional techniques, these master artisans hand-carve blocks of pear wood to produce the stamps they use to print their own designs onto the fabric. The rich and vibrant colours they hand-mix come from closely guarded family recipes that are passed from generation to generation.
